JR's First Dove Hunt

Let me just say this was a great trip. Friends, birds, and most of all a good time with JR. More proud dad moments: As myself, Mark (college roomate), Bud, Casey, and Chet were sitting there struggling to shoot fat doves with our shotguns JR was popping off rounds with his .22. We had a lull in the dove and JR began eying some of the small pasture birds that flutter and fly around. Well his attention was drawn to a few that were flying over the pond we were sitting on and boom. He squeezed off a round. Splash on the water. Lady our fearless retriever took off. She brought back a bird that was smaller than my palm. JR had head shot a pasture bird while it was flying over the pond from 20 yards with a single shot .22. He just smiled like it was no big deal. This was quite humbling as I continued to sling large amounts of lead at fat firds flying slow. We had a big time.
Notice JR's right hand in the post hunt nap. He was still holding his first bird. We later had to properly dispose of the bird.
